Lulu Sailing is a passion project I launched in January 2025 to explore the potential for offering luxury, one-of-a-kind experiences in Zanzibar. While it started as a hobby, we’re on track to break even and start seeing returns within the first year.
Key Challenges:
-
Sourcing the right boat: Finding a suitable vessel has been tricky, especially with inconsistent pricing and the tendency for sellers to inflate costs when dealing with foreign buyers.
-
Local negotiations: Navigating deals can be tough due to a lack of standard pricing and occasional opportunism.
-
Hiring reliable captains: It takes time to find trustworthy and skilled crew members.
-
Maintaining exclusivity: Ensuring private charters stay private and aren't sold off without our knowledge.
That said, there’s nothing quite like having your own boat—it’s a constant adventure and always brings a bit of joy, even when the logistics get complicated.
